The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have locked up another key piece of their all star-laden offensive line with the signing of veteran Pat Neufeld on Tuesday.
Neufeld, 33, will play his 11 th CFL season in 2022 and his eighth with the Bombers.
He had one of his best seasons in 2021, playing at both right guard and right tackle and being named a CFL all-star.
He’s the second member of the Bombers dominant offensive line to re-sign for another year, following all-star tackle Jermarcus Hardrick, who inked a contract last week.
The remaining players on last year’s starting O-line — all-star tackle Stanley Bryant, all-star guard Drew Desjarlais and CFLPA all-star centre Michael Couture — are all due to become free agents on Feb. 8, although the Bombers are sure to try to get them under contract before then.
Desjarlais has had workouts scheduled with NFL teams, so his return is very much in doubt.
Behind the work of the offensive line, the Bombers finished second in the league in rushing yards in 2021 and allowed the least quarterback sacks.
They also went on to win the Grey Cup for the second straight season.
