Bombers sign Janarion Grant

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers re-signed one of the top returners in the three-down game on Wednesday.

American wide receiver/returner Janarion Grant signed a one-year contract to return to the Blue and Gold for a third season. The 28-year-old from Rutgers University battled injuries in 2021 and only managed to play six regular season contests and both playoff games, but he still managed to lead the Bombers in both punt and kickoff return yardage anyway. In 17 career CFL games, Grant has four punt return touchdowns.

Grant went undrafted in 2018 before signing with the Baltimore Ravens. He made the 53-man roster as the primary punt and kick returner, but after a few fumbles Grant was cut and forced to head up north to continue his career. In 11 games with Winnipeg in 2019, Grant had 591 yards on 41 punt returns — taking three of those back for touchdowns — and 600 yards on 25 kickoff returns.

Grant wasn’t the only signing made by the Bombers on the day as they also re-signed American wide receiver Carlton Agudosi and signed American receiver Lucky Jackson.

Agudosi, who also played college ball at Rutgers, spent 2021 on the club’s practice roster. Prior to the CFL, he spent some time with the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles before ending up in the XFL with the St. Louis BattleHawks. Agudosi played 45 games at Rutgers and recorded 35 receptions for 513 yards and two touchdowns.

Jackson comes to the Bombers from Western Kentucky. He had 94 catches for 1,133 yards as a senior before capping off the year with a 17-catch performance in a 23-20 victory over Western Michigan in the 2019 First Responder Bowl. His 209 career receptions are the second most in school history.
